As an artist, I am driven to capture a moment of expression and emotion, and use the subject’s human form to convey my personal thoughts and feelings. For as long as I have been drawing seriously, I have always been interested in drawing people. I was initially drawn to portraits because of my fascination for the human face, and people’s ability to communicate without words, simply through body language. I started out repeatedly drawing individual features like eyes and noses, and gradually began to form complete faces. My confidence in my ability to draw these individual features has given my drawings a life-like quality, while continuing to showcase the medium in which they are created.

My goal is for the viewer to see my drawings, and understand the tone and feeling of the subject through his or her expression. On top of that, I have been able to integrate my own personal meaning into my drawings, making them an artistic representation of my life, and taking it further than simply a drawing of a person. Every drawing holds significance to me because each represents challenges I have overcome in my personal life, and the struggle to develop new skills
